WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

Turn an idea into an object.

Students follow a design from the screen to the workbench. They use design software to create digital models, learn how to prepare those models for printing and take part in hands-on 3D printing. Seeing the physical result gives them something to inspect and improve.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Skills students work towards.

  • Create a digital model using design software.
  • Describe how a model is prepared for printing.
  • Explain how a printed object relates to its digital design.
  • Identify a design change after inspecting a physical model.

Students build these skills through practice, with guidance suited to their starting point.

LEARNING BENEFITS

Habits that support the work.

01

Think in three dimensions

Explore shape, size and how different parts fit together.

02

Design for a purpose

Make decisions based on what an object needs to do.

03

Learn from the result

Use a physical prototype to find improvements that may be less obvious on screen.

PROGRESSION

Where to go next.

Discuss the next step with the club. Readiness matters more than completing a fixed sequence.
